Genrikh Padva is a celebrated Russian advocate with an outstanding reputation and immense experience in litigation and human rights. He acts for the defence in criminal cases, both for preliminary investigations and in court; he represents clients in arbitration courts and courts of general jurisdiction in a variety of cases, including defence of honour and reputation, shareholder rights and inheritance disputes.
Genrikh Padva argued the case at the Constitutional Court for the non-constitutionality of the application of the death penalty in Russia. His appeal led to recognition of the non-constitutionality of the application of the death penalty and since then the death penalty in Russia has not been applied.
He was one of the creators and is currently vice-president of the Union of Advocates of the USSR (currently known as the International Union (Commonwealth) of Advocates) which brings together advocates from Russia and the former republics of the Soviet Union.
Genrikh Padva is the author of numerous publications on various legal topics and in particular, on advocacy in Russia. He has been awarded “The Honourable Lawyer of Russia”, the Cavalier of the Badge of Honour “Public Recognition" and The Plevako Gold Medal. Genrikh Padva's name has been listed numerous times in the Russian top advocates ratings and in the international "Who’s Who of Professionals". In 2001 Genrikh Padva was nominated “The Man of the Year” in the Law category by the Rambler poll and in 2006 “The Man of the Decade”.
